Late Spring Trip

Summer heat has moved in and I’m grateful for the many ceiling fans in my condo. I’ve spent hours working on my latest embroidery piece and it’s finally done. Last week, I drove to Watkins Glen State Park in New York state and spent my entire time there embroidering. It was glorious!

The first night at my campsite, a big thunderstorm went through and it poured. The next morning, I saw what I thought was a pair of plastic salamanders under the picnic table. I reached down to pick one up… and it was squishy… and it moved! The salamanders must have been washed out of the woods by the rain. According to Google, this little guy is an Adirondack Salamander. He’s beautiful!

The camping trip was spent working on my latest embroidered piece. Each day, it sat in my campsite and did nothing else except embroider. I managed to get six circles embroidered each day.

It was nice to concentrate on just embroidery and not have to worry about watering plants or dealing with litter boxes or a myriad other daily details. I missed my cats but I enjoyed the time-off even more.

This project was inspired by a piece by Sue Spargo. I love her work but I’m hoping future inspiration will come more from me and less from Sue. I’ve learned over time that creativity is a muscle and the more you use it, the stronger it gets and ideas come more easily. It’s been a while since I used that particular “muscle” but it’ll make exercising it an adventure.

I’ve gotten some nice complements on the finished piece. I’m considering having it framed.

It should probably be blocked. I’ve never blocked something like this before so it should be an experience. I look forward to it!
